CCN Monthly Video Recap — March 2016

March 2016

Men’s Divorce, sponsor Cordell & Cordell and sister site DadsDivorce.com have teamed up to present a series of recap videos to keep you informed on the latest news and top stories for each of the websites.

Over the past month, attorney Diana Potter was named a Georgia Rising Star by Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters rating service of outstanding lawyers.

Additionally, Texas divorce attorney Jane Robertson was named to the National Advocates Top 100 list, an organization consisting of the top attorneys from each state or region. Both of these awards are fairly exclusive, as a limited number of attorneys make the cut each year.

Dad’s Divorce published an article about how the shared parenting movement has continued to pick up steam across the country, which is encouraging for men and fathers.

Last year, 20 states introduced legislation that would increase considerations for equal custody, and Missouri and Florida have already introduced similar bills in 2016. This is great news for families, as research has continually demonstrated the benefits of shared parenting for children after divorce.

Men’s Divorce posted a tax guide that explains the numerous issues that can arise when filing in the first year following a divorce.

While taxes had likely become predictable during your marriage, there are many changes you need to be aware of in the first year after your marriage ends. These include your filing status, credits and exemptions, so it may be beneficial to consult an accountant or CPA to ensure you do not make any mistakes that may result in an audit by the IRS.
